THE SPIRIT OF EMBROIDERY :
I think that in Morocco, all women embroider, and they embroider everything: their clothes, the many tablecloths and doilies used at the sacred meal time, every free space is taken up, in the same way as for the men, embroideries in plaster invade ceilings and wood panelling is covered with sculpted or painted traceries. This culture of embroidery comes from a long tradition that has produced two styles that are much sought after by collectors: Fez and Rabat. This concerns work done by hand, but this tradition is also continued in machine-made embroideries which are a modern embodiment of that tradition. (...)
