The word evokes memories of childhood and images applied to any surface as if by magic ... obviously long before the days of “stickers”.
That is exactly what it is: a process for reproducing an image effortlessly, in this case on ceramics. This technique has a long tradition in the industry, although other more advanced methods have made it all but obsolete. Nevertheless, in the latter case we have an infinitely repeated image, without the least difference; in other words remote from our usual designs, which favour craftsmanship and glory in variations. It is the meticulous precision that interests us. Certain motifs are incredibly laborious to reproduce by hand, such as the “Méchants oiseaux”, or virtually impossible such as the lacework in the “Cocotte” ... |
