For a long time, I painted walls with lime, discovering its velvety appearance, which seemed
\nto magically erase the confinement of walls. But lime is dusty and volatile,
\na rather archaic way of life that was difficult to offer my clients!
\nMoreover, the colours are very limited, especially when you want to avoid toxic pigments.<\/p>\n

In the early 1980s, I discovered a small artisanal paint factory in Brussels,
\nthe Linkckx Paonlin company, which had developed the most matte paint imaginable in 1934.
\nSpecially designed to prevent glare on cinema facades, and theater and television studio sets,
\nit perfectly met my aesthetic criteria.<\/p>\n

I then began mixing paints for my clients from their paint range.
\nI was thus able to thoroughly test the durability and quick application of their products.
\nIt was only natural, then, to ask them to manufacture my paints when I wanted to market
\nmy own range of colours in 1996 for the EMERY&Cie brand.<\/p>\n

But when, after 28 years, the story abruptly ended in 2024, I had to pick up my backpack and find another manufacturer.
\nFortunately, in the meantime, many more or less artisanal brands had developed with similar criteria to mine.
\nSo I quickly came across the ARGILE brand, which also had the enormous advantage
\nof finally being able to offer bio-sourced quality.<\/p>\n

I think I was born with a passion for painting!
\nAt the age when others were playing with blocks, I delightfully devoured
\na huge box of pastels my mother had inherited from a painter, a friend of my grandfather.
\nMy bedside books were “The Scribbler Kittens” (a friendly gang of clumsy little cats who knocked over paint pots that got mixed up
\nand thus discovered the secret of colour mixing) and a huge book on Botticelli in black and white with a few colour plates.
\nIt must be said that my family environment was favorable to all my artistic endeavors.<\/p>\n

My grandfather, an amateur watercolorist but nonetheless very professional in his rigor, caused me a lot of minor grief
\nby solemnly throwing the pretty tube of white gouache placed on the side of my new paint boxes into the trash because “white is the white of paper.”
\nAnd so, much more than with other subjects, talking about painting means talking about myself and my family.
\nI was that architecture student who, against all odds, always did her projects in colour
\nin a universe strictly devoted to black,
\nwhite, and eventually gray.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Painting has been with me all my life; I even worked as a “decorative painter”for years,
\ncreating frescoes and patinas in my own way (they were more like
\nglazes obtained by superimposing colours using the old masters’ technique on an easel).
\nSo it was only natural for me to create a range of colours; I simply had to draw on my experience.
\nAnd perhaps this is precisely what differentiates my range from all the other ranges
\nthat have flourished since: it’s not the result of research in a design studio,
\nbut the living traces in my memory of memories of so many construction sites
\nfrolicking on scaffolding (like “The Scribbler Kittens”).<\/p>\n

I’d like to conclude by saying where these colours come from.
\nMy long-term visits to museums and books must play a large part in this, but more often than not,
\nit’s “the colour of the water in the canal opposite the Chien-Vert” that will be a source of inspiration,
\nor a too-pale Belgian sky, or… but the names of the colours sometimes tell the story just as well.<\/p>\n
