Craft production is one of the great immutables, because faced with the standardisation and generalisation of industrial products that populate our daily lives, I treasure the unsettling irregularities, the tiny defects, the all too human errors - all the minute differences that identify each object. There are also thematic and historical references, transcending the material aspects and giving each object a sense and a provenance; its own history. Although I may well be a "material girl", fussing about the comfort and performance of materials, I also need the spiritual comfort of playfulness and imagination. Because without spiritual comfort, there is no material comfort.
