The title "precious tiles" may appear provocative. Finally, I was forced to understand that my choices had a price tag. My decision to sell and defend a production method that is in danger of becoming extinct is an expensive one, especially as there is no nostalgia to enhance the value of these items in the same way as those sold by antique dealers. When I look at the last remaining craftsmen, often

in under-developed countries, I want them to be paid decently. However, we are at the very beginning of a very long march, which will have to be organized to bring the products, nicely presented, stored, catalogued, onto the shop shelves, i.e. saleable. As any alternative between industrialized production and the art market has virtually disappeared, there are no reference points to make a relevant comparison. (...) |
