KLEURTJES : (Next..)

(...) I grouped them into little clans of four colours which make them even more vibrant, but with 36 colours, all sorts of combinations are possible, including a single-colour effect, of course. Then, since the "sorcerer's apprentice" is never far away, I suggested to my suppliers that they should engage in some technical exploits. They produced very large tiles, size 30 x 30 cm, which pushes the historic connotation into the background, in favour of a more modern style. Later on came the raised pattern friezes, leading our amiable "kleurtjes" toward new stories : a distant echo to the "children's games" once decorating the Delft.

" Delft " style tiles, also known as "witjes" (little white ones) when they are plain, were widely used from the 17 th century onward. In particular, the decorated tiles of a humorous nature.
(tile borrowed from our neighbours at "Delftenco", to whom we are grateful)
