SO LET'S EAT !
Our relationship with eating has changed and continues to change - think about it and the parallels between the content and the container are staggering, looking only at what is still fresh in our memories, or even in our cupboards. Here are a few examples: some of the richest amongst us learned of gastronomy eating from delicately ornamented fine porcelain plates, a perfect extension of the tastes of the 19 th century that are sometimes as heavy as the sauces. Others, or perhaps the same people, reacted against these excesses by placing a few miniscule items on a hugely over-sized plate, presumably to compensate for the absence of nourishment. These days our daily fare is all too often deep-frozen, and so standardized that even exotic dishes end up with the same taste, precisely in step with the anonymous plates factory-produced by the thousand, sometimes laboriously decorated with a gimmick in an attempt to personalize it.
